City Breaks

Pâtisserie Ciel

Earlier today a few friends and I entered the zen-like Pâtisserie Ciel to try their angel cake, a Japanese delicacy which I’d never heard of prior to this visit. A friend insisted that I select the black sesame flavour which I was rather intrigued by and glad of the recommendation as it was wonderful. This place provides such a lovely experience mainly due to the gracious and smiley servers who are attentive to your every request. From the moment you sit down they place a compressed hand towel in front of you which expands when water touches it, they then bring over your delightful cake accompanied with your drink and let you enjoy the space without ever rushing you. The sponge cake was light and fluffy with a creamy mousse center and the litchi juice which I hesitated to order was indeed surprisingly delicious. This experience has only fueled my desire to try more Japanese patisseries in Paris, with an eagerness to return to Sadaharu Aoki and to finally make it to the famed Japanese Aki bakery on Rue Saint Anne.
