18 Things to do in Byron Bay and beyond

With its bohemian roots and free spirit, Byron Bay has captured many souls over the years, including my own. The vibe in this beachside town is contagious, it’s the live buskers, the dishevelled surfers and the nomads that end up never leaving that make it this way. But the only way to really understand, is to experience it for yourself. My advice would be to hire a car, because whilst Byron Bay is easy to get around, you’ll want to get out and explore the neighbouring areas. If you find yourself in this little nook of the world, here are some ideas to help you see the very best of Byron Bay and beyond.

The Pass
Climb the few wooden steps to Fisherman’s lookout where you’ll get the best view of the Pass where all the surfers wait on their boards for the waves to crash. Mesmerised by the surfers, you’ll find that time stands still here.

Brunch at Combi
Combi is my favourite among the amazing cafes in Byron Bay. The smoothies are decorated with fresh flowers, the acai bowls are smothered in peanut butter and avocado on toast is the best I’ve ever tried. The menu may be all vegan, but every dish that flies out the kitchen is phenomenal.
