Brunch in style in Kuala Lumpur

Who knew that brunch in Kuala Lumpur was a thing? I certainly didn’t, but the brunch scene here took me pleasantly by surprise. Whether you’re after a classic European brunch or an aromatic Asian one, you’ll find everything from French toast to bang bang chicken on this list.

Fancy Breakfast Club, Kuala Lumpur

Fancy breakfast club
Fancy Breakfast Club is among the prettier places to brunch in KL with its plant-decorated interior. You can custom make a brunch board by selecting five items from the extensive list which includes mashed avocado, hash browns, eggs and yoghurt etc. It gets busy on the weekends so it’s advisable to book ahead.

This place gets everything right: flawless fat whites, bright interiors and a killer waffle menu. Its sun-drenched interior is the perfect place to enjoy a lazy brunch on a Sunday morning. Whilst their brunch menu has all kinds of savoury options, I would highly recommend their waffles which come in a variety of flavours to please every palette.

Forever on the hunt for smoothie bowls, you can imagine my excitement when I found them at Rubberduck. Choose between the sunshine bowl, berry bowl or avocado bowl. Merchant’s Lane
Nestled in the heart of Chinatown, Merchant’s Lane has earned a big name for itself and is always buzzing with locals and expats alike. It’s like stepping back in time to bygone Chinatown with peeling walls, mismatched tables and a plant-strewn courtyard. The menu is extensive with Western and Asian options.

Kuala Lumpur

Chocha Foodstore
More lunch than brunch, but I had to include this place as it is hands down the best Asian food I’ve eaten in Asia. All of dishes (and I’ve tried quite a few now) are fresh, aromatic and flavourful with an interesting twist. The simple but incredibly well executed Biang Biang noodles blew my mind, made with homemade fat noodles, chili oil, toasted peanuts and fresh herbs. It’s wide selection of interesting salads will please veggies who can choose among courgette and cumin salad, curried cauliflower or mango rojak.

This speciality coffee shop has also extended its menu to cater for brunch lovers. Available all week and weekend, you’ll find brunch staples such as the chili crab roll, croque monsieur and avocado open sandwich. But the dish that everyone's talking about is the all-day sharing breakfast which consists of eggs, sausages, beans, tomato ragout and hash browns.
