Mini Guide to Hoi An

Hoi An is as picture perfect as any Vietnamese city gets. Canary coloured houses line the streets and multi-coloured lanterns hang above. It’s nearly impossible not to fall in love with Hoi An and most people declare it their absolute favourite city in Vietnam. This guide serves as an introduction to the city covering the top things to do, top coffee shops and eateries.

Hoi An Ancient Town
The Ancient Town has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and it’s not difficult to see why. Spend a day getting lost down lantern-dotted streets and weaving in and out of enchanting shops.

Japanese Covered Bridge
This tiny little bridge has become symbolic of Hoi An. It’s only a couple of steps to cross to the other side but it’s a couple of steps worth taking. The bridge also takes you to an array of wonderful eateries and Vietnamese stores.

Suit Tailors
To many Hoi An is known as Tailor City for the sheer number of tailors which line the streets. For a small fee you can get anything designed from a three-piece suit to a ball gown.

Hoi An Roastery
Hoi An Roastery is the best place to grab a coffee, be it a traditional Vietnamese coffee or a cappuccino. Passionate about superior coffee, their beans are sourced from the highlands near Dalat and later roasted in Hoi An. Sit on the balcony for beautiful views over the water.

On the menu you’ll find cold presses juices and smoothies with fun Vietnamese-influenced names such as the Good Morning Hoi An and the Sip the Magic Dragon made with dragon fruit, fresh strawberries and chia seeds. Reaching Out Tea House
This unique tea house is a silent retreat in Hoi An, employing only those who are speech or hearing impaired. You’ll be asked to fill out a little slip with your order and pass it to one of the friendly staff who are all smiles and eager to help. Tea and coffee soon arrive in beautiful Vietnamese crockery and are best enjoyed in the leafy courtyard.

Nu Eatery
Hidden behind an inconspicuous backstreet that you wouldn’t know existed otherwise, you’ll find the sweet little Nu Eatery. It’s entirely authentic and entirely wonderful. On the menu you’ll find a selection of exotic salads and traditional Vietnamese dishes. I'm convinced they serve the best fresh spring rolls in Vietnam.
