The Best Temples to Watch the Sunrise in Bagan
There are over 2,200 temples in Bagan, however not all of them can be climbed. With this in mind it’s not always easy to find the perfect sunrise temple, however here we’ve got it covered. Whether you’re searching for balloons flying right over your head, a secret sunrise spot or the most popular one, here are 3 of the best temples to watch the sunrise over magical Bagan.
Pyathetgyi Pagoda
Dozens of hot air balloons float into the sky at sunrise creating the most magical balloon studded sky. If you want to see the balloons up close, then Pyathetgyi Pagoda is your best choice. Here the balloons fly right over your head, so close that you can feel the heat from the gas and hear the passengers talk.

Shwesandaw Pagoda
Known as the sunrise pagoda, this epic view comes with a lot of tourists trying to capture the same shot. The views at sunrise are incredible, but I would really recommend getting here early to secure a 'front row seat'.

Law Ka Ou Shaung
If you're after a secluded spot to watch the sunrise over Bagan, then this is the temple for you. The landscape is studded with temples in the foreground and hot air balloons in the background. Of all the pagodas I climbed at sunrise, this one is my favourite.
